Another beautiful weekend on tap for New England. High pressure is anchored over us providing the sinking air needed to clear out any clouds and make our skies bright for the next several days. We will have to watch moisture streaming out of the Gulf of Mexico…but little will come from it. Our Happy High Pressure system ain’t budging. It will direct rain into the mid-Atlantic and keep us dry… Read more
Weekend Thaw…Then More Snow…..New Weather Update
Posted by Joe Joyce March 7, 2009 at 8:27 pm

The combination of melting snow and the steady rain from last night is allowing rivers to rise in the north. This may cause any rivers which are currently covered with ice to break up and there is the potential for ice jams. Ice jams are like a traffic jam in a river where the broken ice starts to pile up, usually around a bend, this prevents the flow of water…and rapid rises to the river which can overflow their banks with little warning to local area residents. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Southern Vermont & Southern New Hampshire for just this possibility. So those of you who reside along the river banks in snow covered New England, please be advised to pay attention to your surrounding environment. We will try to keep you up to date Read more
AAAAAAhhh! We’re Melting!

Bye Bye Snowpack!
Yes…melting with be the theme of the weekend. Those of you with a few inches of snow on the ground will see the snow disappear just like the wicked witch of the winter! Saturday will be absolutely gorgeous. Make sure to get outside and enjoy! A week front rolls through this morning providing a wind shift to the west. Skies will be filled with sunshine all day. After a mild start, Temperatures will climb into the 40’s and 50’s…even eclipse 60 degrees in a few locations away from the coast. With the heating of the day, winds will turn onshore for an afternoon seabreeze. In summer, a seabreeze is welcome relief…but in March, with water temperatures in the upper 30’s….a seabreeze can be a bit of a spring party pooper, adding a significant chill to those who live along the coast. Clouds will be on the increase this afternoon ahead of our next disturbance which will be rolling in tonight. Read more
A little video from the South Shore

We were able to get Steve Garfield livestreaming onto NECN and weathernewengland.com this morning, and had hoped to get blogger/writer and Hingham, Mass. resident Jeff Cutler on board as well. That didn’t work out as well, so we’re posting a couple of his clips now, via YouTube and Qik, respectively.
Jeff boldly steps outside in Hingham, via YouTube.
Jeff records and drives while moving through downtown Hingham as the snow lets up.
And if you missed Steve’s live cellphone video snow report on NECN, you can see that right here.

Thanks to everyone who has been sending in photos and videos on the storm to weather@necn.com and to the New England Sky Scenes Flickr group. If you want to add your photos, sign up for the group and tag your photos “March snowstorm,” if you could.
Working on getting some of the videos up, too, a little later.
