Good Holiday Travel Weather, a Friday Nor’Easter, & a Pattern Change

Clouds will be in place for the rest of the week with a few chances of rain we will have to watch through the week. A typical cloudy, unsettled November week ahead with typical November temperatures…something we have not seen much of this month. Stay tuned to the weather, timing the disturbances may change and may impact some of your travel. Full weather discussion inside.
All good things must come to and end, and this weekend just might be it for the year folks! We have been on a wonderful mild run this month with numerous days of sunshine with the feel of Indian Summer. It has been great weather for cleaning up the yard, chopping the wood, and getting ready for the upcoming winter. But the pattern is going to start to change.
Let’s start with the first wave of rain coming out of the southeast. Clouds will be thickening south overnight with plenty of clouds and a cool east wind for Monday. Brighter skies North. The East wind will dominate much of the week. Onshore winds with plenty of clouds will help to keep New England on the cooler side, but in reality…it is just a return to normal. No Cold air in the pattern yet! The rain will push up the east coast and arrive in southern New England during the mid-late afternoon hours Monday. It will start out light then become heavier as the night progresses. Heaviest rain will be found at the coast and in eastern sections of New England through Tuesday morning. In all honesty, the rain does not appear to be very heavy. This will quickly tapper to showers & drizzle Tuesday. This area of low pressure will remain off the coast, but the combination of the low to the south, and the departing high to our northeast will allow the winds to pick up at coast
Plenty of Low couds will remain locked in with a northeast wind for the midweek as weak high pressure tries to help out. Forget about it! Clouds will dominate all week… Wednesday is the big travel day and there will be a definite lull, but the weather will remain dreary and dull. Wednesday may turn out to be one of the better days of the week, with breaks of sun possible with highs trying to get back into the 50’s
The Jetstream with start to carve out an energized trough into the eastern half of the country as we approach Thanksgiving. This will help to scoop another round of moisture out of the gulf and direct it towards the Northeast, as a more significant developing storm. Thanksgiving will be fairly quiet with mostly cloudy skies. A scattered shower or a bit of drizzle can not be ruled out for the high school football games, but it is Thursday Night into Friday where the main event occurs. A stronger storm should move right up the coast and into New England providing a slug of heavy rain with embedded thunder to end the week. Again, gusty winds at the coast. There is still plenty of uncertainty this far out, but also confidence in knowing something wet is heading towards us around this time frame. The exact track is what needs to be pinned down. It will be mostly rain, but colder air will wrap around this low late and there is a chance that enough cold air comes in behind the low to allow for any rain to change to an accumulating snow in the Northwest Hills and mountains of New England as the storm departs Friday Night into Saturday. Places such as Burlington and Stowe could make out quite well with the snow perstisting into Saturday. Next weekend will be blustery and much colder with highs in the lwr to mid 40’s.
These two waves signify a gradual break down of the unseasonal warmth across the country and a transition to much colder times ahead which will come in a hurry once December arrives. Just like that we will be into winter! Have a wonderful time with your family. Good Luck in your Travels.
