Normal Weekend Weather

What is Normal? If you find it, let me know! Just kidding
Normal is just what we will be getting this weekend for once! Aaaah. Exhale. Nice to have a quiet pattern to regroup, for all this pattern is doing is just reloading. After a December with above normal snowfall, there are signs we will be likely plunging into the heart of this winter in the coming weeks with plenty of cold and storm development. But this weekend and this week…well, we are Normal. Normal never felt so good! I always considered normal boring. Why be normal? Normal is status quo, neither hot nor cold, it just is. Well for January, normal looks pretty darn good to me! Average highs for this time of year is 38 Boston, 33 Worcester, 31 Concord, NH. We will be close to these numbers this weekend.
A weak disturbance rolled through last night with a few scattered snow showers, just enough to coat the car and sidewalks in some areas. As this low gets off the coast it will strengthen. The combination of this Low and a building high to our west will allow for a stiffening breeze this Saturday. The active wind will make our “normal” highs feel a bit colder. Windshills will be in the teens. Skies are increasing with sunshine and will remain bright & clear for the entire weekend. A few more clouds in the mountains, especially the northern green mountains who are picking up several inches of snow this morning.
Clear and cold tonight as winds diminish. Sunny and Normal tomorrow with less wind. Highs will remain in the 30’s. With less wind…it will be the weekend pick! Our next disturbance is more weak sauce. See Normal is boring! This will come with clouds Sunday Night, starved of moisture, but chust enough for a scattered snow shower north, or even freezing drizzle south early Monday morning. The sanders will be out early Monday to keep things safe for the AM commute. Despite the brief blip on the radar…skies will fill with sunshine Monday & Tuesday. Monday has a chance to even eclipse the 40’s south! A more moisture loaded storm will come out of the equatorial Pacific and work it’s way into the Northeast by late Tuesday Night & Wednesday. There is be enough cold in place air upon it’s arrival that accumulating snow is likely north, with a transition to ice and sleet in central, and turning to rain south. My confidence in the track and temperature of this storm is not high at this point. Any further south and this could become a doozy of a snow storm! Right now it looks like a messy midweek mix. This should be a good snowfall for ski country! Now behind this storm….is where things are going to get interesting. I think the jetstream will start to block and buckle and we have a better chance of more Arctic air spilling south into the Northeast from Canada. The time of January 10th-the 24th could become awfully cold around here. As the cold interacts with the warmer water off the Atlantic seaboard…more storm development is likely too. Anything but Normal!
