Huge Ground Swell Today- November 3, 2009

Six to Ten Foot Rollers arrived every Ten to Fourteen Seconds today. This Huge Swell Rallied Riders onto the water at High Tide Today. Usually we can only surf low tide, because less water means better chance for a break. This kind of break at high tide, with a full moon even, is rather rare.

Where did this incredible Groundswell come from? A Tropical Storm formed east of Bermuda Last Saturday, and backed toward Bermuda Sunday and Monday. The swell arrived today, helped a bit by our little surprise Nor’Easter on Monday.
The sunshine and mild air today is likely the best weather for until Saturday or Sunday. We may have some left over swell on Wednesday, the sun will shine, with air temps only in the 40s. Rain develops Thursday, changing to snow Thursday Night. Low pressure south of Nantucket Thursday Night will experience ‘bombogenesis’, that is rapid deepening with Hurricane with wind increasing to 50-75 mph south of Maine Friday. The storm is slowly pulling toward Nova Scotia as it intensifies and expands, allowing for banding Rain changing to Snow by Friday Morning. The best bet for plowable snow is from Eastern massachusetts north into New Hampshire and Maine. Sunday River may get a nice powdery snow for skiers to start our weekend. The weekend will be mostly dry with temps rising back into the 50s.

Got something to say?

Tim,
Could you please send me the news clip of my son Brad? I would be interested to see it. We were at a soccer game and missed it.
Thanks,
Kurt Prouty
Great pictures, Tim! I wish I could have been there riding them! It will be interesting to see what unfolds with the storm Thursday night/Friday morning.
Tim i love tracking swells and i made the afternoon trip with the gf up to gloucester and then rockport where i think the SE swells arrived a bit more unefffected (by the cape)…..by 3 pm ….the swell size was a bit more powerful than what appears shown in scituate. it appeared there was 2 seperate swells in the water one with a E/ENE component and then another more due SE…anyhow i will try to attach some pics in the next day or two from today..and then especially friday as i plan on taking some more either from (wachusett/snowboarding) or Scituate/Gloucester depending on storm evolution.
Thanks for a great blog and keep up the exceptional forecasting…..i just moved back to mass from FL and i am happy to see you are still with NECN.
