Stormy Sunrise Thurs Dec 3, 2009
Posted by Tim Kelley December 2, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Late sleepers may miss the tropical downpours early Thursday December 3, 2009. But no matter when you get up, the wind will grab your attention, and possibly your hat too. Wind gusting past 50 mph, first from the south or southeast, then from the southwest and west, is causing widespread tree damage with scattered power outages.

Northern New England, hit hardest during last Saturday, will not be quite as windy as coastal areas. Notice the white arrows with the circular center, this is the low pressure center, forecast to be about 988 millibars over VT/NH during the morning. Near the center, we have lighter wind, almost like an eye. Wind will shift from south to west as the center passes from southwest to northeast during the day, sunny breaks are expected by afternoon. This storm had snow in Dallas Texas, tornados in Florida and 5″+ Rainfall in Tallahassee, and will bring record warmth to New England. Read on for records to beat and to see the multiple advisories in effect here.

Nov 27, 2009- Strongest Storm Since..?
Posted by Tim Kelley November 27, 2009 at 8:36 pm
The barometer is down to 28.71″ (972 mb) in Bar Harbor ME. When is the last time our barometer read this low? I am not sure, but will do some research. The snow is raging in the hills of Western Maine, Northern New Hampshire, and the spine of The Green Mountains in Vermont. This image from Bretton Woods NH this afternoon., one of two ski area open in New England. Sunday River is also open. Most ski areas are getting snow, but will likely not open for a week or two.

Rainfall has also been intense with 2.1″ in Cornish, where we a change to snow occurred about 8 PM. As wind increases tonight, the pasting snow will weigh down trees causing power outages.
This storm is a result of a new weather pattern that will keep us on the cold on snowy side of the front for the most part well into December.

Six to Ten Foot Rollers arrived every Ten to Fourteen Seconds today. This Huge Swell Rallied Riders onto the water at High Tide Today. Usually we can only surf low tide, because less water means better chance for a break. This kind of break at high tide, with a full moon even, is rather rare.

Bottoms up For Major Duck Dive!

Snowy & Warm Oct 22 ‘09 New England

Beautiful Burning Bush and Yellow Tree here in our Wells Avenue Office Park, where we reached 74 degrees today. For Worcester Massachusetts, the high temperature of 73 makes today, October 22, 2009 the warmest day of the month. On October 22, 1979 the high temperature of 82 in Worcester remains the record to beat. Interesting that October 1979 is the snowiest October on Record for Massachusetts. Speaking of October snow..

Snow is falling in Connecticut…and moving northeast
Posted by Matt Noyes October 15, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Classic early-season snow event the likes of what we saw in Northern New England is underway in the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Pennsylvania. Wet snow that sticks to everything is the result of a surge of warmth and moisture colliding with a shallow but intense cold and dry dome of air that’s been in place across the Northeast, and has developed northeast into Western and Central Connecticut.
This photo was sent in from Tim Wright of Middletown CT at 5 PM. Looks like more than inch even along the banks of The Connecticut River.

In most of the Nutmeg State, temperatures are above freezing and this will significantly limit accumulations, though the hilly terrain of Litchfield County into the Southwestern corner of Massachusetts may see as much as two inches of snow Thursday evening into Thursday night.

Four Day Nor’Easter Forecast for October 16-19, 2009
Posted by Tim Kelley October 14, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Low pressure that dropped the first few inches of snow at our ski areas yesterday, Tuesday October 13, 2009, is tonight a major storm near Newfoundland. wind at Saint John’s is gusting to 65 mph. That low has deepened to 966 millibars, or 28.5 inches. Backside wind is pushing the coldest air since last winter to our six state region. A Frost and Freeze Advisory is in effect all the way to south coast. This is likely the final frost advisory of the fall, as the growing season will have ended for most of us by morning. This will be the fifth night in a row of freezing temperatures in New England. Cold enough air that we have the first Ski Resort of the Season to open here in the east.

Sunday River started the lifts on Upper Lock Mountain today, Wednesday October 14, 2009. This photo was sent our way by Darcy Liberty of SundayRiver.com. The plan is to run the lifts through Sunday with tickets selling for $25.
