One Storm at a Time
Posted by Tim Kelley February 22, 2010 (3 weeks ago) at 7:26 pm
An upper low is heading in and cutting off over New England for the rest of February 2010. A series of surface low pressure systems will circulate into this upper low through Friday, then the upper low will spin out over us Saturday and Sunday. Joe, Matt, and Danielle have discussed this in great detail already. So I will try and get the rain and snow forecasts using this graphic. For tonight, Monday February 22, we will estimate how much snow and rain will fall with the first storm Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Tuesday rain and snow are really from two low pressure centers, a 1008 millibars primary low into Ontario stalls, and secondary off New Jersey will deepen to 1004 mb. and dissipate as the center moves into Connecticut Wednesday. We all know this scenario favors rain over snow, especially with no cold out in front.

Greg Keeler shares video and stills of an olympian training at Cannon Mountain NH.
Cannon has an Olympic skier training with a private coach right now to get ready for the Olympics.
Her name Yina Moe-Lange. She’s a Washington State resident, but a citizen of Denmark and is on the Danish Alpine Ski team. She also may be the second youngest Olympic skier at 16.
She came here though a connection at Franconia Ski Club, of which Bode Miller belonged, and because Cannon has world class training terrain and great conditions right now.

This is the finest combination of comfortable temperatures, abundant Sunshine, and Snowfall, that we ever see in January. Bill and Paula Petrone cook up a Savory and/or Sweet Breakfast every day at thier Buttonwood Inn on the Side of Mount Surprise in The Mount Washington Valley New Hampshire. The Nordic Ski Trails passright out back, and you are minutes from Wildcat, Attitash, Black, and Cranmore. This video shows the weekend sunshine and weekday Powder. Thomas Prindle of Wilcdcat Mountain rips it up. More sunshine is in the forecast for this weekend, January 22-24, 2010.

Daffodils are in bloom on Main Street in Norwell Massachusetts. I will show the flowers in Tim’s Friday Pics, Friday at 4:20 PM on NECN. Today, April 1, 2009 we had a low deck of clouds move in from the ocean with light rain tonight. This rain is from the front that is attached to the storm formally know as March 2009 Blizzard Number 4 for the U.S.. That storm pushed Fargo North Dakota, and International Falls Minnesota over the edge for snowfall records. Here are those announcements from The National Weather Service.

This means we have more flooding in the future for Fargo.
Here in New England we have a new weather pattern that may bring snow to our Mountains starting this Saturday Night. Greg Keeler sends this photo and note from Cannon Mountain New Hampshire.
Hey Tim -Cannon Mountain is still hanging on to winter!
We picked up 4 inches of new snow Monday into Tuesday, mostly from 2500′+, but that made for some pretty sweet turns today!
We plan to be open through April 12th – Splash Pond event this Saturday and BodeFest on April 11th
Yup Bode will be here skiing.
There is a ski with Bode, fun race against Bode and Autograph session…
Greg

See how many areas are still open, and check the unreal new snow amounts to our west at snocountry.com. Steamboat Colorado is pushing 40″ since Monday.
Our weather forecast remains unchanged from last night’s discussion. Sunday is still the pick of the weekend. The Red Sox will take the field as rain approaches Monday. That storm will also change to snow in our mountains. Ski & Garden & Baseball seasons overlap for April.
New England gets off easy, compared to the West and South

March 2009 has been atypically sunny and dry here in New England. Despite that, we still have 7′ of snow in the Green Mountains. Our quiet weather is not for lack of storms, just good positioning. The third blizzard of the month is winding down in the Central Plains, the remnant of that storm brings rain to New England Saturday Night and Sunday. Our Friday, March 27, 2009, brought the warmest air of the year to the region, especially away from the coast, Hartford CT reached 65°. We may do this again Saturday, as one wave of low pressure slides south of Nantucket early. That means clouds to sunshine, with highs in the 60s from Connecticut to Vermont.
