Matt’s Weekly Weather Word Contest – Winner for the week of June 8-12, 2009, and new word for week of June 15, 2009

Posted by Matt Noyes June 15, 2009 at 5:18 pm

There was plenty of ground to make up in Matt’s Weekly Weather Word contest today, with a winner to announce from last week, and a new word this week.

Last week’s word, “whinge,” produced some creative entries from authors of all ages, with the Hit or Miss game – a Mensa award winning game, no less – on the line, donated by Gamewright.

Gamewright has generously offered another game for this week’s prize package – a Best Toy of the Year award winner, “Ring-o Flamingo!” You’ll have to work in order to win it, though, because you can’t win if you don’t play, and you can only play by composing your own, creative, weather-related sentence using the new word of the week! View the video below for the new word, and more on Ring-o Flamingo!

Matt’s Weekly Weather Word Contest, new word for the week of June 8, 2009

Posted by Matt Noyes June 12, 2009 at 9:22 am

Note: Because a) this post didn’t appear until Friday, and b) Matt was off on Friday, this week’s contest runs until Monday morning, June 15. Good luck!

No whining about our new word of the week – “whinge!” If you don’t already know what the word means, you’ll want to investigate in your most handy dictionary, but your challenge is a bit more in-depth: pen your own, creative, weather-related sentence using the word of the week. As always, our multi-person panel of judges will grade the sentences at the end of the week, for Matt to announce a winner on Friday morning.

This week’s prize package features a fun game for all ages from Gamewright, too, so check out the video for more details!

Matt’s Weekly Weather Word Contest, New word for the week of May 18, 2009

Posted by Matt Noyes May 18, 2009 at 11:36 am

You’ll want to give plenty of time, thought and effort to this week’s Weather Word challenge, because there’s an awesome prize package at stake!

Michael Doyle runs a company called Wooden Pen Works, specializing in handmade wooden gifts. Who is Michael Doyle? Another Weather Word fan, like you and I, but an exceptionally generous fan who has donated an amazing carved wooden pen for this week’s prize! The pen has raised NECN letters on it, and has “Weekly Weather Word Winner” engraved on its face, and comes in a beautiful wooden case that is a combination of wood burning, carving and etching with fabulous detail. We were all floored at how beautiful it is – so put your thinking caps on, and good luck. Thank you Michael and Wooden Pen Works!
