Severe Storms Day #8- July 3, 2009.

Today is day eight in a row that we have reports of severe weather in New England. Storms are being reported to The National Weather Service from Southern New England, and Maine.

Bob Hennessey sent this pretty shot from route 100 in Waitsfield Vermont this evening. Though storms were not quite as widespread, we do have damage reports from around New England today, July 3, 2009. The temperatures high in the sky are falling dramatically tonight and into the weekend, this makes for an unstable atmosphere, hot air rises, cold air sinks. If we have low pressure and high humidity, with wind shear aloft, we end up with thunderstorms. The humidity is coming down, but so is the barometer, so we still have dynamics in place for storms to re fire Saturday, and Sunday too. The freezing level will come down to 7000 feet Saturday, this guarantees that any storms that form, will produce a lot of hail and lightning. However, the coverage will be spotty, the temperatures will be warmer, with an offshore wind, so the weekend looks pretty good.
Happy 4th, Tim & NECN Mets.

Got something to say?

Tim,
Nice write-up. Those pulse thunderstorms were pathetic yesterday along the coast. A southerly sea breeze kicked in early. One thundercloud did manage a weak rumble and a moderate to heavy shower; 0.20.
I noticed the radar this morn that there’s a disturbance over NY state. If that can interact with maximum heating, we could get some natural fireworks locally this afternoon. Though the DP is lower than yesterday but the CAPE is higher. I believe there is more potential here today with the wind gradient offshore.
